Hecher Sosa will be the fifth Spaniard in the UFC, joining Ilia and Aleksandre Topuria, Joel Álvarez, and Dani Bárez. He earned this privilege after defeating Mackson Lee at Dana White's Contender Series. The Canarian fighter took the bantamweight victory against the undefeated Brazilian and convinced the company's boss to offer him a contract.
His performance, coupled with the ongoing hype surrounding the fight, including the death of Sosa's father after a long illness , has moved Dana White. The Guanche Warrior 's record is 14-1, and he can also boast becoming WOW's first bantamweight champion after defeating Yaman Mhajed.
Precisely, one of the participants of WOW is Ilia Topuria, who didn't hesitate to congratulate the Lanzarote native after his recent milestone of joining the UFC , took to Instagram to send a message of congratulations to Hecher Sosa. "Another example that if you want it, you can do it. Congratulations, champ," he wrote alongside a photo of the fighter.
Topuria and the Canary Islander have strengthened their relationship in recent months. In addition to being a champion of the promoter in which the Spanish-Georgian participates, the two trained together at Ilia's home.
The fighter from Lanzarote has great admiration for the UFC lightweight champion. "I've learned a lot. I was only with him for one day and I learned a ton . If I trained more, I would improve by leaps and bounds. To be a champion, you have to surround yourself with champions. I had several conversations with him, and his confidence, what he exudes... Nothing is a coincidence," he expressed in 20 Minutes.
"The discipline he has, the work he's done since he was a kid with Greco-Roman wrestling, jiu-jitsu, improved his boxing by leaps and bounds... In the end, he has a gift, and when that combines with work and mentality, he's unstoppable," he concluded.
